Sea Breeze, Ocean Mist

Nothing is more peaceful than being at the beach. It’s one of the most soothing and calming places I know. It brings back memories of my childhood. Memories of days where I spent all afternoon splashing in and out of the waves, and collecting sea shells for my great grandfather whilst singing songs from the broadway musical Annie.

I would walk with my parents along the pier to buy ice-cream from the ice-cream vendor. Then I would watch the surfers run along the pier and jump off at the end with their surfboards. Each one hoped to catch the perfect wave. I would see the fisherman standing along the edge of the pier talking to one another about their lives, while trying to catch the best fish. Everyone was always so happy and friendly at the beach. I suppose it’s hard to be unhappy in an environment like that.

Then, after spending a large amount of time swimming, building sand castles, and eating ice-cream; I would lay on my dolphin towel, and just listen. I would listen to the waves crashing on the shore. I would listen to the other children laughing and playing. I would listen to the sea gulls squawk and flap their wings. It amazed me the things I could hear when I just opened my ears and listened. Life doesn’t always require us to speak; sometimes, just listening is enough.

“I like to listen. I have learned a great deal from listening carefully. Most people never listen,” Ernest Hemingway.
