A coping mechanism

As beautiful as she was, her thoughts were flooded with fears.
She’s cried many times before, though no one saw her tears.
Most people just see her tough facade, few have seen her more personal life.
Her laughter is innocent, flooding the room.
One person corrupts the pure words she’s been taught.
She’s afraid of exposing her vulnerable side, for fear that people will abuse her with lies.
A defense mechanism, much like a wall, surrounds her, protects her, from those who wish to see her fall.
Though she may seem tough, hard to break, and strong, she’s really just protecting her sensitive bones.
Keeping people out, keeps her safe from damage and heartbreak.
She knows that once they are in, she’ll be easy to take.
